We hope you are enjoying the early days of Spring!  We wanted to share a few changes that {roots} is going thru, and we also hope that you’re ready to mark this years first volunteer project on your calendar!

We welcome ourselves to… The James Gang: The James Gang is a local community building group that we’ve had a great relationship with for the last couple of years. We’ve loved their vision for being a think-tank for community causes, organizations, and initiatives. In 2010, they became “fiscal sponsors” of {reclaiming roots}, allowing our volunteer group to come under their tax-exempt status and direction.  In 2011, we’ve both decided that a closer relationship made sense for several reasons, and {reclaiming roots} is now a part of The James Gang organization. We’ve shared common mission and passions for building community – and we’re now “an endeavour of the The James Gang.”  We’re excited! Less worry about the structure they already do so well, and more energy toward getting to know our neighbors!

Mark your calendars for April 23: KirkwoodElementary has asked for our help in planting a school garden. On April 23 from 9am-12noon we will be breaking ground with them, installing raised beds and tilling the ground for what we hope to be a great opportunity for education and some locally grown grub. We’ll have coffee and pastries, so all you’ll need to do is bring yourself and a friend or two to help this community on this new venture! Stay tuned for more details as the project date approaches. In the meantime, get over to the website and register for the event!

The Mindset: Since 2007 {reclaiming roots} has been bringing people together for the cause of community building and restoration. Over these years this has mostly looked like neighborhood clean-ups. While we see the need for these types of events, we also know that there are many more ways to build relationships and foster a strong community. Thanks to the support we have received over the years from people coming out in force to volunteer and sponsors wiling to step up, we have been given the chance to be creative and take this idea to another level. During the past few months we have been dreaming about what this could look like and we are really excited for what we’ve come up with. So be sure to stay tuned to the website and your inbox for the new types of projects, events, and parties that will be coming your way!

Thanks, {roots} crew
